What to Expect
Your first visit
The primary aim of the initial consultation appointment is to establish if chiropractic care is suitable for the main complaint. Your chiropractor will discuss the current complaint and any past and/or secondary issues in detail.
We will also discuss more general health issues. This may include previous illnesses and/or trauma aswell as more general health issues such sleep quality, supplements and levels of exercise.
Physical Examination
If the patient is happy to continue with the next stage of the consultation, the focus will move on to the physical examination. This will include a series of different tests including range of movement exercises, strength tests and neurological tests. Some of these tests may be uncomfortable if patients are already experiencing pain, but it is important to let the chiropractor know if anything is painful and they will modifiy the tests accordingly.
There is no need to remove clothing for the examination, although loose clothing is preferable and makes the examination more comfortable for patients and easier for the chiropractor.
There are no onsite x-ray facilities at The South Coast Clinic. If the chiropractor feels imaging or further tests are required, they will make a recommendation at the end of the appointment.
Depending on the specific case and outcome of the history and examination, the chiropractor may be able to offer treatment on the day or treatment may begin at the follow up visit.
